We were first contacted by Guinness Partnership to help protect McArthurs Yard, which is an old shipping site based at Bristol Docks which they recently purchased for redevelopment. Due to the scale of this site, the property had become prone to activity from travellers and homeless people and was frequently trespassed by the general public. As there were multiple areas which were isolated, the site had also become subject to extensive acts of graffiti, particularly around the perimeter fencing.
It was important that Guinness fully secured the site, not only due to the considerable investment but also from a health and safety point stemming from unauthorised access on site.
Following an extensive site review with our customer, it was agreed that we would need to have ‘feet on the ground’ to fully secure the numerous buildings that were on site. For this reason, we deployed security personnel to the area with dog handling capabilities to ensure that we could cover large areas of open ground and vacant buildings with equal efficiency. This team were placed on site from 4 pm until 8 am weekdays and 24/7 over the weekends. Our team also removed any graffiti that had taken place along the perimeter fencing, to help deter other offenders from following suit.
Once the on-site buildings had been demolished, we were able to offer an advanced Ultra Solar CCTV tower instead, which is capable of covering vast areas and remotely monitored by our security operations team. This system not only saved our customer considerable cost but also ensured that the site was fully monitored 24/7 throughout the entire week.
The Ultra Solar is completely self-sufficient and powered purely by solar energy, which also makes it the greenest option available with a zero-carbon footprint. This system offers highly advanced features such as object recognition, thermal imaging, live audio alerts and HD quality footage to ensure that sites are completely covered for any circumstance.
By fully securing the area and removing the initial issues, we were able to provide Guinness Partnership with a cost-effective solution to their security problems. The initiatives that we implemented also saved our customer the significant time and expense of organising evictions for squatters on site.
