In the summer of 2019, Omexom arranged for a 400kv transformer to be replaced at their Ratcliffe power station. As this was a live working environment, we were asked to provide a solution that could monitor the work area to ensure that safe working practices were adhered to, considering the nature of the replacement.
Omexom required real-time, uninterrupted access to the project along with regular ‘snap-shot’ updates for their client, National Grid. This footage would then be used to support their training programmes and case studies.
Our Engineers were invited to visit the site to meet with the Programme Manager to assess the required works and discuss the scope of the project. We then agreed a number of actions which included the use of high-scope, flame proof PPE, and the necessity for stand-by supervision for the installation, maintenance and decommission phases of the system. We also agreed to adjust all method statements and risk assessments to mirror the requirements of the Ratcliffe Flash Card and site-specific installation.

We provided Omexom with a scope of works which included onboarding their staff onto Optosafe’s online video platform. In addition to the 24/7 recording, we took one still image of the site at 10-minute intervals and collated these into a time-lapse video, which was presented at each agreed milestone meeting.
Time-lapse services are usually provided by 3rd party suppliers as a separate system involving the rental of equipment and network connections to capture the footage, so our free inclusive service provided Omexom with a considerable cost saving.
