Group Head of Infrastructure

Salary: Competitive

Hours of Work: 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday with 1 hour lunch break plus any necessary out of hours support.

Job Purpose

This role is a critical IT role reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The purpose of this role is to manage, maintain and develop the Group’s information systems infrastructure, and support the 24/7 alarm receiving centre, nationwide branch office network and field-based operatives.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the company’s information technology infrastructure operates reliably, securely and efficiently, satisfying needs of the business across all locations

The role is requited to manage two direct reports (IT Support Analysts) and any contractors as and when required. It is also required to manage various outsource partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining IT policy, procedures and best practice guides for the organisation
  • Lead the development, implementation, installation, and testing of new hardware and related systems
  • Overseeing and determining timeframes for major IT projects including system updates, upgrades, migrations and outages
  • Project manages infrastructure technology changes and coordinates internal and 3rd party resources
  • Evaluates infrastructure related technology and makes recommendations to ensure compatibility and effectiveness throughout the business
  • Research and evaluate existing and emerging systems and develops recommendations to enhance or replace existing systems
  • Conducting regular system audits and risk assessments
  • Responsible for all network access, intrusion detection, data security management and data corruption issues
  • Maintaining regular network and data security penetration testing
  • Ensure the backup and recovery procedures against all systems are effective
  • Provide management reporting against agreed support performance metrics
  • Responsibility for monitoring and maintaining infrastructure performance and sharing regular operation system reports with senior staff
  • Ensure accurate logging of requests for system enhancements and bugs
  • Provides technical assistance and advice to other members of the IT Department and all customers
  • Manage, plan and evaluate the work of the team
  • Design training programs for staff, identifying opportunities for team training and skills advancement
  • Manage, coach and conduct performance appraisals of direct reports to facilitate their development and effective performance as members of a motivated and empowered team
  • Responsible for maintaining, managing and testing the DR process
  • Ensure software licences compliance across the business
  • Provides out of hours support to ensure urgent issues are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems
  • Assisting with the I.T. budget planning process
  • Managing and reporting on allocation of IT budget
  • Negotiates with 3rd party suppliers and obtaining competitive prices to ensure cost effectiveness
  • Supporting the business with Customer Information Security questionnaires
  • Observe and contribute towards all company procedures, including Health and Safety, ISO9001, ISO27001
  • Perform as a fully supportive team member.
  • Communicate appropriately with all parties as & when required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the IT Department

Skills, Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy.
  • Must have a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, software and/or systems relative to high performance computing.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and instruction to users on the use of computer technologies.

  • Cisco Switch \ Router \ LAN \ VLAN Experience
  • SmoothWall Proxy Management and Security
  • Mimecast Email Security and Continuity Platform
  • CrowdStrike EPM Security Platform
  • ManageEngine Desktop Central Administration
