A Look Back at 2021

And what a rollercoaster year it’s been. I think we were all hoping that the pandemic would be left behind in 2020, but as we know too well that wasn’t the case, and the everyday challenges are still very real. But it’s not all doom and gloom, as a business we have a lot to be proud of this year and the following achievements are down to the incredible support from our people, partners and customers.

New product launches

Through the year we’ve had 3 major product/service launches that are designed to support our customer needs within the security sector.

Time-lapse services

In February we launched a free time-lapse service when hiring our Ultra range of CCTV towers. Using 4G technology built within the tower, time-lapse footage can now be streamed in 4K definition directly to our Customer Portal, which allows clients to view and alter the settings to their own preferences. Customers can also view their site in real-time and set multi-speed time-lapse options to record their entire project, exactly how they wish. Video footage can also be embedded into any website, to give their team or clients complete transparency throughout the entire process.

Anti-social Behaviour Surveillance Service

During May we released our latest service, designed to reduce anti-social behaviour within communities. We have previously worked with many businesses, councils and housing associations to provide bespoke solutions to help manage anti-social behaviour, but our goal has always been to provide a specific, cost-effective service for our customers.

Through continuous research and improvements through our development team, we proudly introduced our Anti-social Behaviour Surveillance service, designed to further reduce these issues by specifically targeting this problem with a dedicated and streamlined solution.

Tetra CCTV Tower

In September, we were pleased to launch our new CCTV tower, the Tetra. Designed specifically to meet the demand from smaller sites on tighter budgets, the Tetra is a 5m tall tower that is built with efficiency and affordability in mind. The Tetra is available as a powered or self-powered ‘Solar’ system and is ideal for the protection of smaller sites or high-value asset areas. The Tetra comes complete with a range of advanced features, usually seen on towers in a much higher price range.

New ‘Communities’ Customer Portal

In June, we released our new field service platform and customer portal to greatly enhance the service we provide for our customers. This new portal is designed to capture more information and make reporting easier than ever before with a brand-new user interface and asset management features. With significant time and investment dedicated to this project, Communities now gives us a constantly evolving tool which fully supports the delivery of services to our clients.

Think Safety First Campaign

Safety is the priority in everything we do. As part of our mission for continual improvement in each area of the business, our Operations Director, Paul Stubbs, is working with the HSE and Compliance team to redefine our Health and Safety approach, including a new ‘Think Safety First’ campaign which is now rolling out throughout the business.

When Paul took on the role of Operations Director with Orbis back in December 2020, he found that the company had a ‘good’ health and safety track record, but that there were areas where he could see room for improvement to work towards ‘excellent’ H&S performance and culture.

Management Buyout

To support the next stage of our strategic growth plans, in June we completed a full management buy-out with new investment partner Synova and existing partner, NorthEdge Capital. This exciting milestone will further support our plans to invest in smart technologies, grow our existing UK business and prepare for international growth.

New CEO Ben Howard

In June, Guy Other retired as CEO after successfully building the business over the last seven years. Guy said “I am proud to be leaving the business in an incredibly strong position and with an investment that will ensure it continues to grow. I look forward to working alongside the new CEO, Ben Howard, in the coming months to support the transition and watching the business continue to develop and grow”.

Appointment of Non-Executive Chair

In November, Orbis Protect appointed Philippe Mauguy as its new Non-Executive Chair. Philippe has a wealth of experience across B2B service businesses in both the UK and across Europe. He was previously CEO at Safetykleen International and President at UTC Fire & Security, and currently holds non-executive roles with PTSG and RE Panels, as well as being a senior advisor to Blackstone Credit.

As you can see, it’s been a very busy year and there are many more examples we’d like to mention, but unfortunately we can’t list them all. We would like to thank again our people, partners and customers for their incredible support throughout the year. Here’s looking forward to 2022!
