Summary
- We were asked by THT to provide security for a number of vacant plots on their latest housing estate project
- THT required a fast turnaround due to high concerns around potential burglary and theft
- From initial discussion to full system installation took less than 48 hours and has already proven to deter an incident of attempted burglary

Meeting Our Customers’ Needs
In June 2022, Trafford Housing Trust were nearing completion of their latest housing estate build in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. As some plots were still in the process of being sold, these vacant properties were particularly vulnerable to burglary and theft, as new boilers, white goods and other expensive assets were already being installed, ready for potential buyers. Besides the physical cost of replacing these assets, there were also concerns of damage to property from an attempted incident, even if a break-in had not proven to be successful.

Providing Real Solutions
Our challenges on this particular job were mainly around the speed required to be on site to assess, recommend and deploy the best solution during a particularly busy period for the branch. Recognising the urgency for this customer, we pre-briefed the relevant members of our team and performed a thorough onsite assessment to determine the most efficient option.
Once on-site, it was clear that these vacant properties could be secured via our iTrap alarm system which includes a variety of internal alarms and wireless PIR sensors that are directly monitored by our Riverview-based Alarm Receiving Centre team. This ensured that 24/7 monitoring and response was quickly in place, alongside various warning signage to further deter any potential criminal activity.
“Contacted Orbis Protect requesting urgent assistance. Asked for temporary security at 5 vacant plots on a new build development site. Orbis responded within 24 hours and carried out survey of the area and plots. Home intruder alarms were installed the next day. The equipment is user friendly. Orbis provided peace of mind as I knew the vacant plots were now under protection to a response team should the alarms be activated. Thank you Orbis for the quick response and efficient service.”

Results That Matter
Our team managed to complete this job from initial discussion to full alarm installation in under 48 hours, much to the delight of our customer. Since the security set up was installed, there has already been an attempted break in at one of the properties where the alarms were instantly triggered, deterring a burglary incident. Whilst there was some very minor window damage during the incident, the iTrap system undoubtably prevented a much costlier outcome.
